The Piddle Paddles tours brochure was a final course project for a Publication Design class at Southern New Hampshire University during the completion of my bachelor’s degree. The goals of the project were to demonstrate the ability to create a tri-fold document, utilize a grid system, impose and format the document so that it is print ready and showcase effective layout and typographic arrangements. The target audience for this brochure is families with children and couples that are adventurous and looking for different and alternative experiences.
Thought Process & Concept Sketches
For the brochure’s design to be effective and functional, proper imposition of the document was needed for the pages of the brochure to be ordered and arranged correctly. Implementation of a grid system was needed to arrange and compose the layouts of the brochure as well as showcasing fundamental utilization of design principles. I worked on a few sketches for the panel layouts and experimented with different variations and arrangements of the body copy text and the imagery.
Color Palette & Typography
Selecting a color palette from colors in the Piddle Paddle Tour logo which aligned with the standards of the Piddle Paddle Tours brand identity is also showcased in the brochure, enhancing its consistency and effectiveness. Arranging and composing the layouts while addressing the required elements such as body copy, imagery and headlines onto the six different panels was the biggest challenge I encountered during this project.
Outcome
The concept of the brochure reflects the Piddle Paddle Tour’s (fictional) company of showcasing guided tours and different tour destinations for the various activities that the company offers. This is done in a fun and straightforward way that shows the adventurous nature of the company, shown in the layouts within the brochure. I utilized design principles such as balance, hierarchy, space, alignment and contrast to create this brochure design.
